In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Death Mountain and Goron City are difficult to enter. While entering Zora’s Domain involves players following a somewhat unhelpful Prince Sidon, to reach the Gorons, gamers need to know where to get heat-resistant armor in BOTW. The Flamebreaker armor in BOTW and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (and possibly Breath of the Wild 2 in 2023) protects against the Death Mountain heat.

Where to get the heat-resistant Flamebreaker Armor in ‘BOTW’

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Death Mountain first appeared and posed little extra threat on the outside. However, BOTW really cranks up the heat on the path to the Divine Beast Vah Rudania (who kind of looks like the Stranger Things Demogorgon).

Legend of Zelda memes shown Link running wildly into the sweltering heat, bursting into flames as he charges to the Ripped and Shredded armor shop run by the Goron Rogaro in Goron City. Players can purchase all three pieces of the Flamebreaker Armor here for 3300 rupees.

However, Breath of the Wild players can rest easy knowing an easier way to get heat-resistant armor in BOTW.

Players can stop at the Foothill Stable and speak to the traveling merchant Gaile. She offers the Fireproof Elixir in counts of 1 (60 rupees), 2 (110 rupees), and 3 (150 rupees). Fireproof Elixir can protect Link from more extreme heat as he travels to the Southern Mine in the Eldin region. Here, players can find the NPC Kima, who gives the quest “Fireproof Lizard Roundup.”

If Link sneaks around the area and searches under rocks and on cliffs to nap 10 Fireproof Lizards, Kima gifts Link with his torso piece of the Flamebreaker Armor set.

While players can obtain the torso piece through Breath of the Wild sidequests, they need to cough up 2600 rupees to complete the Flamebreaker set.

The Goron Pyle directs visitors to the Ripped and Shredded armor shop in Goron City. They offer all three pieces of the Flamebreaker set, forged but the Goron blacksmith Rohan, who can also repair Champion Daruk’s Boulder Breaker.

Players can purchase the Flamebreaker Helm for 2000 rupees, while the Flamebreaker Boots cost around 700.

Once players have all three pieces, they can upgrade each to level two at a Great Fairy Fountain. This makes it so Link takes no damage at all from flames. However, he can still die from lava. Otherwise, he might be more powerful than Cuccos.

How else can ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ players become fireproof?

However, 3300 or 2700 rupees is a lot. For BOTW players a little short on cash, here’s where to find alternates to the heat-resistant armor.

The best replacement for fireproof armor is to obtain Fireproof Elixir. Players can either purchase it from a merchant or use Breath of the Wild recipes to make it yourself. Players can make it with any amount of Fireproof Lizards or Smotherwing Butterflies with monster parts.

Finally, equipping elemental weapons like a Frostblade or Frost Spear cools Link down, similar to how the Gerudo gear protects him from burning in the Gerudo Desert.
