Yellowstone star Hassie Harrison recently shared some disappointing news. With Taylor Sheridan’s Western series already ending after Season 5 in November 2024, the actress’ other show — which she called “her dream job” — is also concluding after four seasons.
Harrison, who plays barrel racer Laramie in Yellowstone, also stars as Lucy McConky in the firefighter sitcom Tacoma FD. The truTV series premiered in March 2019 and follows a firehouse in Tacoma, Washington. Because Tacoma is considered one of America’s rainiest cities, there aren’t many fires to fight, so they do creative competitions, friendly first responder rivalries, and bizarre emergency calls. Leading the team are Chief Terry McConky (Kevin Heffernan) and Captain Eddie Penisi (Steve Lemme) from Super Troopers.
On Feb. 13, TruTV canceled Tacoma FD, the cable channel’s last remaining scripted series, after four seasons on air, our sister site TVLine confirmed. The Season 4 finale, which aired in October 2023, will now serve as the series finale.
Harrison shared the “sad” cancelation news on her Instagram with a heartfelt post dedicated to her character and the cast. “Sad news guys. Tacoma FD didn’t get picked up for a 5th season. I’m pretty gutted. This was a dream job for me,” Harrison, who joined the sitcom in 2018, penned. “I could have played Lucy forever. Getting to be goofy and bring laughs into people’s homes was the honor of a lifetime. Something I’ll forever cherish and hope I get to do again someday.”
The Texas star concluded, “Shout out to the fine gentlemen who I was so lucky to work with on this and now love like family. And of course, thanks to everyone who watched and supported the show. It’s thanks to y’all that we got to make 4 great seasons…which are still available on Netflix for your enjoyment. Bye, Lucy. I’ll miss you.”
Tacoma FD is credited as Harrison’s breakout role, and the actress previously said that working on the series “strengthened my muscle for comedy.”
“Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme brought me in on that. As a series regular and main girl in the cast and getting to work in a comedy and improv platform, that totally strengthened my muscle for comedy,” she told Backstage in June 2020. Getting to work with these comedic legends, it’s like playing tennis with one of the experts. It only makes you look even cooler than you are.”
In the firefighter sitcom, she portrayed firefighter Lucy McConky, the daughter of Chief Terry McConky (Kevin Heffernan). She actually was a recast of her character (Kirby Bliss-Blanton played Lucy in the pilot episode).
“It’s always a high-pressure or more nerve-racking to be a recast and to make sure that you’re worthy of that recast,” Harrison said in an interview with BriefTake. “And especially that most of these guys were comedic legends and being able to rise to the occasion. But I knew that I’d earned that role because I jumped through hoops, I think that I went to four auditions and chemistry reads with all the guys, and they told me: ‘You were the only choice’ and out of quite a few people, I think that they cast a wider net, too.”
She continued, “But yeah, by the time that I had got to that set, I felt like I had already proved my worth and value in being there. And then I think, inside joke stuff, there was a tiny bit of catch up, and now I’m simply part of a team. I think that shows on screen and off screen.”
Harrison will also say goodbye to Yellowstone when the Kevin Costner-led series wraps up later this year. The final episodes of Season 5, Part 2, will air in November 2024, and a new spin-off series starring Matthew McConaughey is in the works. It’s unknown if any of the original Yellowstone cast, including Harrison, will move to the new spin-off.
The actress is currently dating her Yellowstone co-star and musician Ryan Bingham (and it’s even speculated that the pair could be married). Harrison and Bingham first went public with their relationship in April 2023. Bingham shared a photo of himself and his Yellowstone co-star donning matching camouflage outfits and kissing in front of a large bonfire. “More than a spark 🔥,” he wrote in the caption. “I love you, cowboy🥰,” Harrison commented on the post.
Tacoma FD is streaming on Netflix.
