The cameras will likely be the first improvement headed to the Sampson Street field, Mayor Robert White said. A dozen are on the way and should be in place within the next week or two, he said.

Monitored by the police department, the cameras should allow the township to keep the field open later, White said. 

"If a mother and daughter want to go kick the soccer ball around, or a father wants to throw a baseball to his son, I think they should be able to use [the field]," White said.

The defibrillator should improve safety, but there isn't a firm timetable for its arrival, White said.

As for the bathrooms and concession stand, plans are in the works. The mayor said he hopes to add a larger restroom facility in the price range of $800,000.

"There's not enough bathrooms," he said. "It's not the best situation there."

The field currently has a concession stand formed from an old garage, which the mayor said can be improved.

Township officials hope to start work on the field in spring 2016.
