He had a distinguished career in high school and college, winning multiple awards. He has broken multiple records with Minnesota Vikings and also holds two NFL records. Read on to find out what they are and more…
Teddy Bridgewater’s bio
With many accomplishments to match his stats, one would wonder if he was born like any other human being. In 1992, Teddy Bridgewater was born Theodore Edmund Bridgewater II on the exact November 10th. He is the youngest of four children, including two older sisters and an older brother, Andrea Bridgewater.
He got his inspiration for football from watching his big brother Andrea play with his team. Teddy started training at the age of six and when the opportunity presented itself through a ball he caught while watching his brothers’ team practice, he was ready to take it. He made great strides in both baseball and American football, but ultimately football was his calling.
Teddy Bridgewater has found a bigger foothold in Miami’s NorthWestern High School, where his talent was spotted so quickly that he earned the starting quarterback spot in his sophomore year. This move forced Jacory Harris to be replaced as the starting quarterback on the team. Teddy had a remarkable junior and senior year with soccer in high school as his athletics were phenomenal.
He also went to Louisville College, where he majored in athletic management and replaced the team’s starting quarterback. He kept the starting position, only losing his place due to injury. He became one of the top contenders for the 2014 NFL draft and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014. Teddy Bridgewater was handed a four-year rookie deal worth $6.85 million.
He started out as a backup quarterback for the Vikings behind Matt Cassel before they made the starting spot their own when Cassel had an injury break in his freshman season. After four seasons with the Vikings, Teddy left the franchise and signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets in 2018. However, he was to be traded to the New Orleans Saints that same year. So far, he has accumulated 6,150 yards in passing and 28 touchdowns, 22 stopped passes and 64.7% of passes completed in just 32 games of his career. What happened to him?
Unfortunately, Teddy Bridgewater was out of action for most of the 2016 season due to an injury he sustained during a training session. His doctor confirmed he will be out for at least 19 months with the injury, meaning he also missed the 2017 season. He had sustained an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury and a dislocation of his knee joint and had to observe a few rehabilitation sessions but recovered quickly.
The Saints quarterback has amassed a net worth of $2million over a career span spanning four years. He also transferred the full amount of $12,850,283 in earnings, and we know that as the athlete performs, that number will continue to increase.
parents
Teddy Bridgewater was born to black American parents Teddy Bridgewater Sr and Rose Murphy. But his mother raised him as a single mother as his father was mostly absent from his life. He grew up in the Liberty City neighborhood of Miami.
Rose Murphy encouraged him to be steadfast in athletic pursuits as he had played both baseball and football in his early days. She recruited him to the junior league and even acted as his personal trainer, spurring him on to perfect the football game.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer, but fought through the disease and won. Teddy thanked everyone for their support and wanted to give his mother a Cadillac SUV as a gift. That wish was granted when the Cadillac company gifted her a Pink Escalade Cadillac.
