CHAMBERSBURG, Pa (WJAC) — State police say a trooper was shot early Saturday morning while conducting a traffic stop in Chambersburg, Franklin County.
According to a release, troopers initiated a traffic stop, around 2 a.m. Saturday, along the 1400 block of Lincoln Way E in Guilford Township for a driver suspected of driving under the influence.
The release states that after troopers made contact with the driver, identified as 20-year-old Robert William Ransom, an altercation occurred while the field sobriety test was being administered.
Troopers say Ransom pulled out a handgun and shot one of the officers.
Ransom was taken into custody without further incident and the trooper is reportedly in stable condition after being transported to a nearby hospital.
