A 28-year-old Somerset Borough man has been charged with several felony counts after police found child pornography files on his cellphone and computer.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, on Tuesday, officers with the state Attorney General’s Office and state police executed a search warrant on Jacob Ringler’s West Patriot Street home.

Police seized Ringler’s cellphone and desktop computer during the search.

A forensic examiner found 20 files on Ringler’s phone that reportedly depicted child sexual abuse, according to the affidavit.

Police began investigating Ringler in May when the cloud-storage company Dropbox alerted authorities that five images depicting children had been uploaded to Ringler’s account.

During the search Tuesday, authorities discovered that Ringler had downloaded a child pornography file as recently as Monday, according to the affidavit.

Ringler also allegedly admitted to downloading the files depicting the abuse since he was 18 years old, according to the affidavit.

Ringler has been charged with 25 second-degree felony counts of child pornography and a third-degree felony count of criminal use of a communication facility.

He was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Kenneth Johnson, of Somerset, and was sent to the Somerset County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 3 before Johnson.

An online court docket did not list an attorney for Ringler Tuesday afternoon.
