BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Bronxville Village Board unanimously accepted grant money to do some much needed renovations to Maltby and Sagamore Parks.

The money was initially promised by State Assembly member Amy Paulin (D-Scarsdale) in 2009, after Mayor Mary Marvin asked for help

The village will receive the $275,000 grant to work on Maltby Park located on the west side and Sagamore Park on the east side of the village.

Sagamore Park will be made handicapped accessible using $100,000 of the grant money.

"We are going to get rid of some of the asphalt and walls and make it a much safer and attractive environment," Marvin said.

The remaining $175,000 will be used for Maltby Park, 2.6-acre play area and includes the Betty Parker cabin, which is also known as the Girl Scout cabin.

Marvin said that Maltby will receive new top soil, plantings and shrubs. "Basically we are going to create a nice open space at Maltby," Marvin explained.

Village Administrator Harry Porr said the best part of the state grants money is that the village does not have to match it with funds from its own coffers.

The board has already awarded the contract to do the work, and is hoping the weather holds out. "We are hoping to have Sagamore Park ready by Memorial Day," Porr said.
