CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa — The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report on the plane crash that killed two people in Cambria County on June 17th.
In the report posted on its website, the agency said, the plane “was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. The pilot and a passenger were fatally injured.” It reports the plane took off Saturday morning just after 5, about a 1/2 hour before sunrise.
The report confirms information released shortly after the crash was found on Sunday afternoon. Signs of fire were found at the site of the wreckage, it said, that happened post-crash.
The identity of the two men on board still hasn’t been released. The Cambria County Coroner said he cannot release that information until positive identification is made using DNA testing.
The NTSB report said the pilot owned the airplane and possessed a commercial pilot certificate.
“He reported 1,268 hours of total flight experience as of his latest FAA Class 3 medical certificate application, dated May 24, 2023,” it said.
The report sets up a timeline of events, saying video surveillance showed the pilot taxiing from the ramp at the Ebensburg Airport at 5 a.m. for a flight to Ocean City, Maryland.
All structural parts of the plane were located inside the debris field, it said.
The NTSB said this is a preliminary report and the information could change as the investigation continues.
