Paul Wall whose real name is Paul Michael Slayton was born on March 11, 1981 in Houston, Texas. He was a student at Jersey Village High School. He then studied mass communication at the University of Houston for three years. But this course he was studying had mainly to do with mass language having little to do with what he was most passionate about, which was music. After much thought, he decided to quit college to pursue his dreams. Early in his career, Paul Wall formed a band with his Skinhead friends Rob (Transplants) and Travis Barker. The group was called “Exquisite Taste”, but it is now defunct.

After the band’s death, he offered to do promotions for Michael “5000” Watts’ company, Swishahouse. It was around the same time he met Chamillionaire. He and Chamillionaire went to Watts’ studio, KBXX, to convince him to let them appear on his show by knocking. They suggested doing some verses on one of his mixtapes, titled Choppin Em Up Part 2.
