Mineola resident Justin Visconti, 38, has been charged with four counts each of aggravated cruelty to animals and overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, following his arrest for allegedly abusing kittens last November.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said that on Nov. 25 last year, employees of an apartment building on Lincoln Avenue in Mineola found three dead and mutilated kittens with a pillowcase inside a garbage bag in the building’s garbage chute.

Further investigation led police to discover a fourth kitten in a box allegedly addressed to Visconti.

Singas said that upon examination, veterinarians at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter and Cornell University’s Animal Health Diagnostic Center observed extensive blunt force trauma injuries covering the dead kittens’ bodies.

Visconti was arrested by Nassau County Police detectives on Nov. 26 last year.

According to Singas, Visconti was re-arrested on Thursday, Aug. 6 and charged with criminal contempt for being in possession of a cat, which is a violation of a court order that was issued following his initial arrest.

If convicted, Visconti faces a maximum sentence of two years in jail.

He is scheduled to appear back in court on Wednesday, Sept. 2 to respond to the animal cruelty charges, and on Thursday, Sept. 10 to respond to the contempt charge.

“This defendant is accused of repeatedly beating helpless kittens and throwing their mutilated bodies down a garbage chute,” Singas said.

“In addition to this indictment, the defendant was recently rearrested for allegedly possessing yet another cat, in violation of a court order.

"Repeatedly beating defenseless animals is shocking to the conscience and my office is committed to holding this defendant accountable for his alleged actions.”
