PITTSBURGH - Two-time Super Bowl champion and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison announced Monday that he is retiring from the NFL after 15 seasons.

"I've missed way too much for way too long... and I'm done," said Harrison in an Instagram post that mostly consisted of pictures of his children.

"Many thanks to my family, coaches, the fans, and everyone who played a role in my football life."

Harrison had three stints with the Steelers in his 15-year career, the first in 2002, then another from 2004-2012 and 2014-2017.

The undrafted linebacker out of Kent State has the most sacks in franchise history, with 80.5.

He is a five-time Pro-Bowler, two-time first team All Pro and the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year.

Harrison was a stalwart for the Steelers' defense and was crucial in leading Pittsburgh to the Super Bowl XL and XLIII titles.

Harrison also played for the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals, and ended his career with the New England Patriots.
