PLUM BOROUGH, Pa. (WJAC) — Allegheny County police say the human remains found at an illegal dumping site in Plum Borough have been identified as those of a 67-year-old woman who was reported missing a year ago.
According to police, the remains belong to Elizabeth Wiesenfeld. She was reported missing by Whitehall police on April 30, 2019.
Authorities say a Plum Borough officer was patrolling an area known for illegal dumping and off-road vehicle activity when he found a suspicious bag containing the human remains.
Police say the investigation into her disappearance led to the arrest of 47-year-old Douglas Berry, who has since been charged with criminal homicide.
Authorities say information related to Wiesenfeld's cause and manner of death will be released by the medical examiner's office when it becomes available.
Anyone with information regarding Wiesenfeld's disappearance and death is asked to call the Allegheny County police tipline at 1-833-255-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
