An old school has a new life.

Conemaugh Valley Elementary School, located along Frankstown Road, has been turned into a nursing and hospice home called the Villa Crest.

The remodeling was difficult, during which the hallways were gutted and the plumbing redone.

According to the president, Dr. Richard Kastelic, the 50-acre area will be expanded in the future into a memory care facility with attached affordable living.

"We actually opened one week before the pandemic started. So, we were almost closed for a long period of time. Carefully taking patients coming in through the doors. We had to go through the red zone, the yellow zone, and the green zone. This is the first time in a yearvour residents have been able to come out into the dining room."

Kastelic said they currently have around 17 residents.

Currently, patients come in for rehabilitation and then return to their homes.
