Flood City Volleyball Challenge draws hundreds of athletes to Johnstown

Hundreds of volleyball players from across Pennsylvania -- and even out of state -- travelled into Johnstown for the weekend.

It's for the Ridgetop Volleyball Club Flood City Volleyball Challenge at the 1st Summit Arena.

The teens are playing for a paid bid to the National AAU Junior Championships in Orlando, Florida.

This is Ridgetop's 10th year of supporting volleyball throughout the Cambria County region and beyond.

Jason Layman, President of the Ridgetop Volleyball Club, says it has grown over the last decade.

He says they started out with nine athletes back then -- and now they have over 200 -- from about 40 different school districts.

It's great for the City of Johnstown. The hotels are all full this weekend from teams from out of state and out of the area coming in. Teams are going out to eat and spending money in the town. It's a big community event as well. To me personally, it has a lot of meaning being here.

The tournament continues Sunday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The event is open to the public.

Tickets are available at the door.
