DUBOIS, Pa. - The DuBois Beavers Football Team and community as a whole are remembering the life of a man killed in a freak accident Sunday.
Police said Randall Curley was killed after falling out of the passenger side of an ATV in Clearfield County.
"He loved to be around the kids and the community and he really loved this school district and this program," said Head Coach Justin Marshall.
Marshall said Curley was the volunteer equipment manager for the team for nearly a decade.
"He was always happy and brightened everybody's day," Marshall said. "He liked to joke around with the kids but he also really cared about them and the kids referred to him as Coach Curley. They loved seeing him and he was just a part of us."
Curley was also a member of the DuBois Area School Board, Boy Scout leader and church volunteer.
"Far more than a member of our school family and School Board, Randy was a friend to all, an advocate for kids and a mentor to many," said Assistant Superintendent Wendy Benton. "He was admired and respected by everyone that had the opportunity to know him. Randy was a selfless individual that exemplified kindness and compassion. He always had a positive outlook on life and prided himself on recognizing the opportunity to help someone succeed."
It was a somber start to the football season Monday, as the team handed out equipment for the upcoming weeks of summer practice. Marshall said it was something Curley was completely in charge of.
"We won't be able to replace him but we're going to try and put the pieces together," said Marshall.
Officials created the "Randall Lee Curley Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund" in memory of Curley.
The family is still working out specific details on when it will be available and who will be eligible to apply for the scholarship.
Donations for the scholarship can be sent to Jessica Runyan at S&T Bank in DuBois.
