Former Pennsylvania Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine was officially sworn into the U.S. Public Health Services Commissioned Corps Tuesday.

This makes her the first openly transgender four-star officer in the Uniformed Services and the first female four-star admiral.

Levine was nominated and confirmed as the Assistant Health Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human services March of this year.

She says she is deeply honored and grateful to join the ranks of men and women who serve our nation.
