According to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees, a man died on Wednesday following a work-related incident at JWF Industries in Johnstown.

Lees identified the employee as 45-year-old Jeff Conjelko of Windber. He said the incident happened around 2:45 Wednesday afternoon when Conjelko, who was a forklift operator, was adjusting a steel beam on a flatbed truck. He said the beam, which weighed approximately 3,000 pounds, fell off the truck about four to five feet onto Conjelko. A forklift was used to get the beam off of him, the coroner added. Lees said Conjelko was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center where he died in the emergency room the following hour.

An autopsy was performed Thursday, revealing that Conjelko died of massive blood loss due to the crushing of his lower extremities. The coroner ruled his death as accidental. The coroner's office and OSHA, Occupational Health and Safety Administration, are investigating the incident.

JWF Industries President and CEO William C. Polacek released this statement Thursday:

"Yesterday was a devastating day in our company’s history, and for the family of our employee, Jeff Conjelko. We are grieving together as we try to process this tragic loss. Our focus now is on Jeff’s wife, Brenda, their young children, and all of Jeff’s family and friends. We ask that our community do the same and lift them in prayer. We know that Jeff is in God’s loving arms and we pray that his family is being comforted during this most difficult time."

The coroner told 6 News Conjelko just started working at JWF Industries this past January.
