Celebrate Juneteenth With Parade, Carnival In Englewood

The celebration will feature a festival and carnival from 5-10 p.m. June 16-17, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 18 and noon to 9 p.m. June 19 at Depot Square at Demarest Avenue and Dean Street in Englewood.

There will be a parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at the monument at Tenafly Road and Palisades Avenue.

Purchase wristbands from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 18 and ride all day until closing.

Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was June 19 that the Union soldiers, led by Maj. General Gordon Granger landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and slaves were now free.
