Bill Hemmer Biography
Bill Hemmer was born on November 14, 1964 and took the name William George Hemmer.
The third child in a family of five, Bill was raised with his siblings in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was born. It is also where he graduated from Elder High School. Before that, he had attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic Parish School (Cincinnati).
His interest in the media did not come as an accident. It all started when he was young, when he was a DJ in high school. When he was in his second year at Elder, Bill started a radio show with a friend. The program played 15 minutes of music to students before class.
So it was no surprise that after high school, Hemmer decided to pursue and earn a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Miami.
While still in college, Bill Hemmer became an in-house disc jockey for Mama Jazz at WMUB-FM. From there, he moved on to WOXY-FM. It was a massive move for him especially since this station is considered the premier American alternative music station.
From there he moved on to WCPO-TV, a CBS affiliate. Here, he served as the weekend sports anchor for the resort. After leaving the station, he took a job at CNN.
With CNN, Bill has done very well in his 10 years with the station which has seen him host several high profile shows, including CNN Tonight, CNN First Edition, American Morning, CNN Live Today, and CNN Morning News
Before joining CNN, Bill took a long break from CBS to see the world, which resulted in Bill’s Excellent Adventure. It is a collection of dispatches, tapes and photos that he was able to gather during his travels in China, Vietnam, Nepal, India, Egypt, Israel and Eastern Europe.
It was thanks to this collection that the broadcaster was able to return home with two regional Emmys, Best Entertainment Program and Best Host.
From CNN, Bill Hemmer moved to Fox News in 2005. Through this station, he grew up among the best and was able to handle many very important news stories.
With his interest in promoting journalism, Hemmer started the William G. Hemmer Scholarship in 2005. He started this scholarship to support any deserving Elder High School student interested in journalism and world travel.
A devout Catholic, Bill revealed what makes him the man he is: “I don’t think there’s any aspect of me that wasn’t shaped by my family, whether it’s my parents or my brother and my sisters. We were all close in age. We were close to home. “
